Once again parroting Slashdot, but here's a fairly scary story about high school students not understanding the First Amendment. The First Amendment, which states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances", goes "too far" according to a third of the students surveyed. Sad that. When the freedoms Americans are supposedly fighting this war on terror to protect finally disappear (and the Patriot Act seems to be a good start), it will be the direct result of our apathy and our unwillingness to understand and take responsibility for our freedoms. I know this all sounds very cliché, but it never ceases to amaze me how much people like to pay lip service to rights and freedoms but not really believe in it.
